Back Online

It’s been a minute (okay, a couple of months) since Greystone Estates South’s website went dark. But the neighborhood is back online, and I’ll try to toe the line more diligently to keep you posted on what is going on and when.

For starters, one of the biggest things that did not happen recently was the construction of a car wash facility at the southwest corner of our GESHA property. Thanks to a concerted effort by the families closest to the proposed site and many other concerned neighbors who voiced general opposition to the commercial project, the Lenexa City Council rejected the developers’ proposal unanimously. Several businesses that would have been affected by the car wash also objected strenuously, pointing out the roadways and parking lots in the area were privately owned or leased by the businesses. Anticipated traffic congestion and maintenance issues, they told the Council, presented unacceptable conditions. Going forward, the GESHA Board will keep a sharp eye on potential commercial use applications on that site so as to head off undesirable projects.

Yard Waste

Yard waste will continue to be picked up at least through November 2017 and probably through early January (for Christmas tree pickup). We’ll confirm.

Annual Meeting

GESHA’s Annual Meeting will take place Monday, February 5, 2018, 7 pm. We hope to hold it at the Church of the Nazarene at the corner of 87th Street Parkway and Rosehill. Where it has been for the last several years. We will confirm and let you know.

Garage Sales

The 2018 semiannual garage sale events are tentatively scheduled for Friday and Saturday May 18, 19 and September 21, 22. Please let us know if you would prefer other dates. We would appreciate additional input. And let me throw out this suggestion: It would be great if someone in the neighborhood would lead a group of garage sale enthusiasts to drum up more enthusiasm for the event. Participation has waned over the last few years. The Board will gladly support such a group.

Large Item Pickup

If new schedules follow old patterns, 2018’s Large Item Pickup will take place Saturday June 16.
